Abstract Autonomous development is only possible
when teachers have the requisite knowledge and skills, which are normally
acquired through education and training. Unfortunately, some approaches to
development disregard the importance of teacher preparation and the
establishment of entry standards to ELT in favour of a vague commitment to
development. This article briefly discusses the issue and proposes the
distinction between developing as a teacher and developing towards becoming a
teacher. |
